Layton Collects 1000th Strikeout As Rossville Defeats Tri-Central

Avery Layton has been one of the best pitchers not only in Clinton County, but in the state of Indiana during her four year career at Rossville.

The Virginia Tech commit illustrated her dominance once again on Friday, firing a perfect game in a 19-0 win against Tri Central.

The perfect game, her second of the year, was one of two accolades achieved by Layton, the other being collecting her 1000th career strikeout.

“It’s a great accomplishment for Avery,” Rossville softball coach Chris Gorbett said. “She worked towards reaching her goals and she was able to achieve them. Great job, Avery!”

Layton was a key piece for the State Championship team in 2024. The Hornets look to return to the State Finals again this year, this time in Class 2A. Rossville will begin postseason play at its home field against Benton Central on May 27.

Before that, the Hornets are in action in the Hoosier Heartland Conference Tournament against Taylor tonight at 5:30.
