LeRoy Jackson Jr.

LeRoy “Sonny”  Jackson Jr., 71, of rural Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis.  He was born April 5, 1948, in Spencer, to LeRoy and Dorothy (Schoman) Jackson Sr.; his mother survives in Frankfort.

In 1966, Sonny graduated from Indiana Academy before joining the United States Army as a non-combatant medic during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969.  From 1970 to 1972, he attended and then graduated from Kettering College of Medical Arts as a registered nurse.  Furthering his education, Sonny graduated from St. Joseph School of Anesthesia in 1977, receiving his CRNA certification as an anesthesia provider.  Never losing a patient, Sonny had worked at Baptist Hospital and Shae Ear, Nose, and Throat in Memphis before retiring in 2010.  Sonny loved animals and spoiled his bird, Sophie, at any given chance.  He was an avid reader, historian, author, bible teacher, and lay evangelist.  Sonny had attended the first class of AFCOE at Amazing Facts and had traveled extensively to share the word in addition to his website, FactsofFaith.com.

In addition to his mother, Dorothy Martin, Sonny is survived by his sister, Debra Pearson, of Frankfort; niece, Michelle Carter; nephews, Matthew, Craig, and Jeffery Pearson; and 13 great nieces and nephews.  Sonny is preceded in death by his father and brother, Gerald W. “Gary” Jackson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service honoring Sonny will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Scotland Cemetery with military graveside honors.  Memorials in Sonny’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or Leukemia Research Foundation.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
