The Lewis Cass Lady Kings defeated the Rossville Lady Hornets 61-45 in last night’s Hoosierland TV Game of the Week.
It was a battle of unbeatens at the Hive in Rossville for this non-conference matchup.
An aggressive defense from the Kings forced 15 turnovers, helping them build a lead and hold it for most of the game.
In the first half, Rossville struggled to get the offense going; the Hornets mustered just one made field goal in the first five minutes, and trailed 11-7 after one quarter.
Anna Hedrick kick-started the Kings’ offense in the first half. She posted 14 points through the first 16 minutes and had Lewis Cass leading 28-17 at the break.
In the second half, the Kings continued to ramp up the pressure and pushed their lead to 43-26 by the end of the third quarter.
Rossville’s Ava Burkle was able to find some offensive momentum, scoring 11 points in the second half. But Lewis Cass’ Aftin Griffin scored all 15 of her points after the break and helped the Kings stay in command.
Griffin and Hedreck were named The Farmers Bank Players of the Game.
Burkle finished with a game-high 18 points for the Hornets, while Addi Gorbett added seven points and 14 rebounds.
Lewis Cass improves to 8-0, while Rossville drops to 8-1 on the season.
The Hornets enter a tough part of their schedule. They’ll travel to take on conference foe Sheridan and always tough Tri-County before returning home for an anticipated matchup with Carroll.
