Lights On At The Clinton Central Stadium For Long Time Coach Gilbert

Lights went on at several schools across Indiana for Coach George Gilbert Sunday evening at 7 pm.

Gilbert, long time football coach and teacher at Clinton Central passed away from long battle with cancer on October 31,2023. Invitation went out for the community to gather at the place Coach Gilbert called home, The Clinton Central football field.

Many gathered at Clinton Central as the lights came on the football field Sunday evening listening to testimonies led by Bulldog Coach Jeremy Fendley, a long time friend, student, and football player under Coach Gilbert. Findley talked about his friendship with Coach and shared his memories. Students and former students stepped up and shared their feelings as well.
Every student that gave testimony talked about Gilbert’s unique way of teaching and inspiration he gave to his students.

Coach Gilbert was head coach at Clinton Central from 1988 to 2008, and rehired in 2020.

Coach Gilbert’s family joined the Bulldog community Sunday evening for the lighting of the stadium.

Funeral services are as follows: The Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 9, with visitation following from 4-8 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main Street, Frankfort. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 St. Mary’s Avenue, Frankfort. Father Paul Cochran and Pastor Shan Sheridan will officiate. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, Indiana.
