Local Wrestlers Compete At IHSAA Girls’ Wrestling State Finals

It was a historic day at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and the Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday as hundreds of girls wrestlers from throughout the state battled it out for the first-ever IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals.

Several area girls traveled to Indianapolis, including three from Clinton Prairie, one from Rossville, one from Lebanon and two from Delphi.

Here are the final results.

 

110 Class

Kadie Fearnow (Clinton Prairie) – Third

Fearnow won her first two matches against opponents from Glenn and Seymour. In the semi-final, Fearnow fought hard but fell to eventual State Champion Joy Cantu of Merrillville. Fearnow defeated Monica Alverado of North Central to claim third place. Fearnow ends the year 28-7

Katie Emerson (Delphi) – Emerson matched up with Joy Cantu in the first round and was defeated. Emerson finishes the season 14-10.

Kadie Fearnow (Clinton Prairie)

115 Class

Mimi Nicolas (Rossville) – Second

Nicolas defeated opponents from Carmel, Franklin, and Rensselaer Central, before matching up with her Regional championship opponent, Ysabelle Ocampo of New Haven. Nicolas ends the season with an impressive 33-4 record.

135 Class

Shelby Luper (Clinton Prairie) – Luper fell in the first round to Wawasee, she finished the year 34-3.

Taylor Martin (Delphi) – Martin was defeated by an opponent from Merrillville in round one, she finished the year with a record of 16-9.

 

145 Class

Aries Day – Day fell in the first round to an opponent from Wheeler. She finished the season 26-10.

 

170 Class

Claira Gramlin (Lebanon) – 5th

Gramlin won her opening-round match against Warsaw before falling in round two. She won back-to-back matches to secure fifth place and finished with an overall record of 32-7.
