On January 26th, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Trooper Adam Kirk, along with other troopers from the Peru District and deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a report of a man requiring medical assistance. The individual was later identified as Adrian A. Arvizu, 38, of Argos, IN. Officers located Mr. Arvizu’s unoccupied vehicle in the median near US 31 and County Road 950 South.
Officers found Mr. Arvizu nearly three-quarters of a mile from his vehicle exposed to subfreezing temperatures. Mr. Arvizu was transported to Duke’s Memorial Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, Mr. Arvizu became uncooperative, fled from officers, and locked himself in an adjacent room. He then climbed into the ceiling space above. Despite commands from officers and pleas from family members, Mr. Arvizu refused to come down.
Officers entered the ceiling space, where Mr. Arvizu became combative. He was taken into custody and transported to the Miami County Jail.

Trooper Kirk was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru Post, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and Peru Police Department.
