Marilyn Rose (Roberson) Waggoner

Marilyn Rose (Roberson) Waggoner was born May 2, 1934, in Pike County, Indiana.  She went to Heaven February 15, 2024 surrounded by her family at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana.  Marilyn’s father, Stephen Dale Roberson, died when she was 3 years old.  Her mother was Addie Eloize (Ficklin) Roberson.  Marilyn was the youngest and sole survivor of her siblings:  Kathleen (Luther) Coomer, Donald (Lucille) Roberson, Clifford (Marilyn) Roberson, and Paul (Gerry) Roberson.

Her formative years were spent around Petersburg, Indiana, where the family was a part of the Twin Oaks Pilgrim Holiness Church.  Her pastor, Rev. O.W. Spencer, helped make it possible for her to go to Frankfort Pilgrim High School from which she graduated.  It was there she met and married a college student, Robert Norman Waggoner.  They married June 7, 1952 in the Pilgrim Holiness church parsonage in Rushville, Indiana.  They were blest with 2 children, Gloria Ann (Wendell) Kirkman and Norman Keith (Sharon) Waggoner.

Most of her married life was spent in Frankfort, except for a short time when the Home Missions Dept. of the Pilgrim Holiness Church sent her and Bob to Easley, South Carolina, to assist in the beginnings of the Easley Pilgrim Holiness Church.  Keith was born while they were there.  They returned to Frankfort in 1956, and for many years attended the Frankfort Church of the Bible Covenant which later became Frankfort Bible Holiness Church.  At her death, she was one of the charter members of Bethel Bible Holiness Church.  Marilyn served her church as pianist and for over 50 years was a church treasurer.

For over many years, Marilyn ran the finance and customer service components of the family’s rental/construction business.  Marilyn loved gardening, canning, and cooking.  She was also known for her love of yard ornaments and was quick to defend this love when her family joked with her about it.  She was one of the first to arrive at any event and one of the first to leave.

She was truly a wonderful person with a love and interest in her family and friends.  She was well-loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Norman Waggoner (Bob).

She is survived by her daughter Gloria (Rev. Wendell) Kirkman of Terre Haute, IN and son N. Keith (Sharon) Waggoner of Frankfort, IN.  Grandchildren N. Keith (Lori) Waggoner II, Wendell (Lisa) Kirkman II, Robert (Amanda) Waggoner, Marsena (Rev. Dwight) Hatfield, Roseann (Chris) Knew and Sharilyn “Lyn” (Eric) Boyd.  Marilyn also was great grandmother of 20 and great, great grandmother of 6.
