Marlyn Kay Grice, 75, a life-long Kirklin resident, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born September 30, 1942, in Kirklin, to Ople V. and M. Louise (Boone) Buntin. On May 20, 1961, Marlyn married John W. Grice who survives; they had celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last month.
Until her senior year of high school, Marlyn attended Kirklin Schools where she had been a cheerleader. In 1960, she was a member of the first graduating class of Clinton Central High School. She attended Approved University of Beauty College and operated a beauty shop out ofher home until her children were out of school. Marlyn then worked as a teller at the Farmers Bank and later as a clerk at Frankfort Municipal Utilities before retiring in 2000. She had a passion for sports, but her true passion was her family. She attended all of her children’s sporting events and then as many of her grandchildren’s events as well. A one-of-a-kind, strong-willed, and sassy lady, Marlyn will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Marlyn is survived by her son, Darin D. Grice, of Indianapolis; daughter, Sheila D. (Brian) Whitacre, of Forest; brothers, Keith D. Buntin, of Monticello, and Kenneth D. (Linda) Buntin, of Peoria, Arz.; grandchildren, Myrissa Grice, Spencer Grice, Shelby Grice, Jordan (Kelsee) Tucker, Seth Kohl, and Shane Kohl (fiancée, Jill); and great-grandchildren, Dakon, Aubriahna, and Jaxyn.
Marlyn is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Beverly Sue Buntin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service to honor Marlyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirklin.
