Mary J. Hufford Arvin

Mary J. Hufford Arvin, 97, of rural Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Mulberry Health.  She was born May 18, 1921, in Rossville, to Dale Hufford and Della (Gangwer) Hufford.  On December 31, 1937, she married Clarence D. Arvin; he preceded her in death on March 10, 2003.

Mary attended Owasco High School.  She was a dedicated farm wife, strong advocate for her children, and homemaker.  Mary was a member of Trinity Church of Mulberry and 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Dayton; she enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and especially spending time with her family.

Surviving Mary are her son, Jerry (Janet) Arvin, of rural Lafayette; three grandchildren, Teresa Arvin-Mundell (Joseph Zook), of Colfax, and Brenda (Kevin) Tumey and Karen Tholen, both of Rossville; great grandchildren, Travis (Sabrina) Tarter, of Wolcott, Emily Mundell, of Plainfield, and Michael Tumey (Stefani), Rebecca Tumey, Kraig Tumey, and Carson Tholen, all of Rossville; great, great grandchildren, Farren Tarter, Sawyer Tumey, and Kenneth Tumey; close family friend, Patricia Callahan, of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mary is preceded in death by her daughters, Sharon Kay (Gary) Byrkett and Janie I. Arvin; sisters, Bernice Hufford, Clara Hufford, and Mabel Fultz; and brothers, John Hufford and Glenn Hufford who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.   Funeral service in her honor will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Whisler officiating.  Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.  Memorials in Mary’s name may be made to Trinity Church of Mulberry or to the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
