Mary L. Johnson, 80, formerly of Frankfort and currently of Springport, IN, passed away November 12, 2025 at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, IN. She was born October 8, 1945 in Fort Wayne, IN to James William Marker Sr. and Marion Fae (Schwalm) Marker. She married Rev. Gale Johnson on May 8, 1965 in Fort Wayne and he survives.
Mary was a 1963 graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne and received her Associates Degree from Purdue University and Bachelor Degree from Indiana University. She grew up in Fort Wayne and had lived in several cities across the country. Mary was a homemaker, counselor, hospital chaplain, trust specialist at National City Bank and was a self-employed thread artist and painter. Mary was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time. She had a unique gift for nurturing people, always putting others before herself. Whether it was baking trays of sweet treats to share with neighbors, offering a kind word to brighten someone’s day, or simply making people laugh when they needed it most. Her message was clear: “Live without fear, chase your dreams, and never forget to be kind.” Mary reminded us all to tell those we love how much we care and to show it every chance we get.
Mary is survived by her spouse, Reverend Gale Johnson of Frankfort, 3 daughters, Lisa (Robert) Albaugh, Louise Shaffer, Lani Lewis, 8 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sons, Steven Edward Johnson in 1965 and Gale Robert Johnson Jr. in 1982.
