Recent Clinton Prairie High School graduate Josie Mattingly was named the winner of the Supreme Showmanship competition Thursday night in the CIS Livestock Arena at the Clinton County 4-H Fair.
“I feel ecstatic,” said Mattingly after being named the winner. “Last year, I had the opportunity just to see how the Supreme Showmanship worked with me and just a little bit about the species. This year, I came in a little bit more prepared. I have a whole lot of excitement for each species that I show.”
The competition features winners from swine, beef, sheep, goat, horse and llama competitions.
Mattingly, who won the sheep competition for a second consecutive year, was named the top showman over five other individuals — Mackenzie McWhirt (goats), Austin Orem (swine), Jett Stillwell (beef), Georgia Myers (horse) and Kylie Rapp (llama).
Mattingly was asked what she thought she did well in.
“The one species that surprised me that I didn’t think I’d do good with would be a tie between the horses and the pigs,” said Mattingly. “They cooperated a whole better this year than last year.”
Mattingly is headed to Purdue University this fall.
