Maurice E. Bombei, 86, was called home at 1:50 p.m. January 25, 2018. He had resided at Clinton House the past four years. Maurice, the oldest of eight children, was born in Hendricks County on August 17, 1931 to John & Rose (Calbert) Bombei. He spent his youth on his family’s dairy farm, where he learned a strong work ethic. He graduated from Amo High School in 1949. He married Peggy Jo Thompson in Plainfield Indiana on August 27, 1950 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2017. He eventually moved his family to Clinton County and worked for 7-Up Bottling in West Lafayette. He later went to work at Fairfield Manufacturing until he retired. Maurice’s true love came from his woodworking. Enjoying the water all his life, he built a speed boat which the family enjoyed using many weekends at Lake Freeman. He leaves behind a legacy with his kitchen cabinets and beautiful furniture throughout Indiana and beyond. Besides woodworking, he enjoyed traveling in his RV. Although Parkinson’s Disease had made it difficult to speak, hearing stories and seeing pictures of his great grandchildren’s latest antics always bought a smile to his face.
Maurice is survived by three daughters: Linda Foster of Lafayette, Sandy (Steve) Miller of Frankfort, and Debbie (Randy) Grogg of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, brothers include Jack Bombei of Plano, Tex., David (Patty) Bombei of Greencastle, sisters, Ruth (Ron) Thornburgh of Crossville, Ten., and Janet Staley of Greencastle. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dickie & Robert Bombei and sister, Martha Cline.
The family would like to thank Clinton House and Great Lakes Hospice for the loving care and compassion they gave Maurice during the years he resided with them.
As per Maurice’s wishes, no services are planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Miller’s woods, where many family memories were made. Memorial donations may be made to Great Lakes Caring and Home Health Hospice, 2751 Albright Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort is honored to assist the family.
