Max Wayne Calloway

Max Wayne Calloway, 87, of Mulberry, passed away Aug. 4, 2023 at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born on Nov. 1, 1935 in Lafayette to Willard Calvin & Florence (Miller) Calloway. He married Roberta Jean “Bert” Record on Nov. 19, 1954 in Rossville, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2015.

Max was a 1953 graduate of Rossville High School. He worked as an operator doing machine set up and robot programming at Ross Gear in Lafayette. He was also a freelance commercial charter pilot and farmed for 10 years. Max coached and umpired softball, was a volleyball line judge at Clinton Prairie, flew planes for local parachuters, built two speed boats, and made his own skis. When asked what he enjoyed, his answer was “EVERYTHING”. He loved his family and babysitting the grandkids, sharing morning coffee with friends, reading, talking to others, telling jokes, and woodworking.

Surviving are his Son: Michael Wayne (Darla) Calloway of Lafayette; Daughters: Angela (Andrew) Schilling of Mulberry and Lori Calloway (Juan McKinney) of Frankfort; Brother: Calvin Calloway of San Antonio, TX; Grandchildren: Kirsten Jones of Lafayette, Coriden, Drew, and Tyler Schilling of Mulberry, and Jacob and Calvin McKinney of Indianapolis; Great-Grandchildren: Peyton & Parker Smith and London & Killian Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings: Theresa McCoy, Howard Calloway, Lucille Lanum, Donna Lingelbaugh, and Eugene Calloway.

A Celebration of Life for Max & Roberta will take place at 2 p.m. on their anniversary, Nov. 19, 2023 at their home.
