FROM VERBATIM ON MAYORS FACEBOOK PAGE

You believed in a fresh start. You believed that Frankfort’s best days were ahead and they are. You believed in a young man from Butler University who had a dream of changing his hometown for the better. I have never taken your faith in me for granted. I have given everything I have within myself to my position as mayor. I believe that you and I have shown the rest of the State of Indiana what Frankfort is capable of and what all of us can accomplish together.

We now boast the largest Frito Lay site in the world. Our downtown is coming to life. Frankfort has smoother roads with more on the way. We rose to being recognized as one of the safest communities in Indiana. We unlocked the potential of public-private partnerships by raising millions of dollars to build a beautiful Ivy Tech campus and the soon-to-be completed Prairie Creek Park.

We have taken on our housing challenges and made great strides to rehabilitate our existing housing stock while attracting new housing to our community. We revived the relationships between City and County officials and have shown how transformational change can take place when we come together for the greater good. We have done all of this together.

Life has chapters and is ever changing. It is time for Samantha and I to close this great chapter of our lives and move to the next. After an incredibly challenging decision-making process and with many tears along the way, I will be resigning from the Office of Mayor effective February 28, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. At that time, I will hand over the important responsibility of leading this city to my successor who, by then, will have been selected by Frankfort Republican Precinct Committeemen.

In early March, Samantha and I will embark on a new journey to continue our passion for serving people as I begin my new role as executive director of The WYldlife Fund in the State of Wyoming. I am looking forward to serving the people of Wyoming by raising funds to invest in the future of Wyoming’s wildlife habitat and research needs. As many of you know, I am an outdoor enthusiast and protecting wildlife is a great passion in my life.

Frankfort will always be home to us. Samantha and I thank you for the many special opportunities you have provided to us during the past several years. I will continue to believe in Frankfort and in our community’s bright future. Frankfort will keep moving forward.

May God bless each of you and the great City of Frankfort,
Mayor Chris McBarnes
