Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has issued the following statement regarding the situation with the winter weather in the area.
“After speaking with Department Heads and EMA earlier today, I can report that roads in the city are passable. The Travel Advisory Level will stay in effect through tomorrow as frigid temperatures are still of top concern. The Frankfort Street Department was out all night and will continue to work through today until at least 4 p.m. Salt has been deployed thoroughly. With temperatures this low salt does not work as well. Roads are very slick. If you must be out please give yourself extra time and drive with great caution. We will keep at it.
“Please remember that our Warming Center is still operational at Green Meadows Elementary School. If you know of someone who needs shelter call Central Dispatch and report this. We will see that the individual gets to safety.
“Please stay vigilant and thank you for your patience and understanding during this weather event. We will continue to work hard to keep our roads as safe as possible.”
