Mayor Sheets Recounts 2023 Successes, Looks Toward 2024

As the Christmas season draws to a close and the New Year approaches, Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets released a statement regarding the Frankfort community, detailing the efforts and successes of the city in 2023.

Sheets began her statement by reminiscing on the projects that concluded in 2023, including the opening of Sapphire Bay at TPA Park, the opening of the new Frankfort Police Department headquarters on State Road 28 that was built to specifically address the needs of the local law enforcement officers in Frankfort and more.

“Where has 2023 gone?,” Sheets wrote. “This year is much of the same; we blink, and it’s gone. As I reflect on 2023, I realize that this year flew by because we had a full year of accomplishments and finalized many achievements for Frankfort.”

Sheets stated that in 2023, the city lowered its spending through grant funding that was made possible by the city employees researching, applying for and receiving the grants for road construction projects, large-scale projects across the city and smaller projects within Frankfort. Sheets continued to state that she remains proud of the new business owners and property owners that entered Frankfort this year.

Sheets expressed that the city has already begun looking forward to 2024 with projects such as the annexation to Interstate 65, which is expected to commence in March 2024 with services being provided to the areas in 2025, designs for the new fire station, Fire Station #4, that is expected to be placed within the annexed area to provide another public safety amenity as well as help attract new growth and development within the area and internal projects focused on carefully assessing the budgets to ensure that the city remains fiscally responsible to the Frankfort citizens while also providing the best service possible.

“I am excited to lead the City of Frankfort into 2024,” Sheets wrote. “We have so many projects in the works, and this is just the beginning. I get excited for the future of the City of Frankfort because I want it to be a city where we all can live, work and thrive.”

Sheets concluded her sentiments by encouraging community members to truly enjoy the holiday season as we near 2024, spending time with friends and family for a joyous season of cheer.

“As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season ends, I ask that you pause and enjoy life’s moments with your friends and family because you will blink, and it will be over,” Sheets wrote. “I hope you are enjoying our vibrant community full of life and kindness this holiday season. Serving the City of Frankfort as your Mayor has been a blessing, and I look forward to serving you for years to come. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
