Mayor Statement on Death of Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy

Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has issued the following statement about loss of Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Pickett.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Lebanon and Boone County dealing with the tragic loss of Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Pickett who was shot in the line of duty earlier today while he was assisting Lebanon police officers chasing a person on the run.
A five-year law enforcement veteran, 34-year-old Pickett was the leader of the Department’s K-9 team. He leaves behind his wife and two small children. Deputy Pickett was killed while working to protect his community. May God bless his family, loved ones and co-workers during this incredibly sad and painful time. May Deputy Pickett rest in peace.
Too often we forget what dangerous jobs our public safety servants do every day – whether it is chasing criminals, running into a burning building or providing medical assistance to those injured or sick.  They perform their duties with skill, courage and dedication every day and on behalf of all of us in Frankfort, we thank our own first responders for all they do to protect all of us.
For our nearby friends in Lebanon and Boone County, the reality of first responders’ jobs hit home very hard today. We hold the entire community in our hearts as they grieve the loss of Deputy Pickett.
Another sad loss is that of Lebanon City Councilor Jeremy Lamar. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are extended to his family, loved ones, friends and the entire community during such a painful and difficult time.”
