Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes has issued the following statement regarding the school shooting in the state of Florida on Wednesday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by today’s horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. With 17 lives lost, many injured and countless others forever changed by this senseless violence, we hold the entire community close in our hearts.
We also need to keep the first responders in our thoughts and prayers for their courageous actions in running towards danger, treating the injured, locating the suspect and bringing an end to a terrifying situation as quickly as possible. These public safety servants’ jobs – just like our firefighters, EMTs and police officers’ jobs – are challenging to say the least and in today’s situation, they are heartbreaking.
May God bless the community of Parkland, Florida that they may find strength, healing, comfort and peace during this very difficult and painful time.
