Merium McQuern, 93, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Wesley Manor.
She was born on May 1, 1925, in White County, Indiana, to Joseph Cowger and Sarah Lydia Criswell. Merium was married on August 4, 1945, to Carl E. McQuern, and they were together for nearly fifty years before he passed away on February 15, 1995.
Merium graduated from Monticello High School in 1943. She was active at Hopewell Church as a member of the Friendship Club. Throughout her life she enjoyed embroidering, knitting, and sewing. Everyone enjoyed her old-school country cooking. She was an avid euchre player with her friends and family at Hopewell. Her rose gardens were a beautiful sight to behold. A trip to Las Vegas earned her a red Buick Skylark.
Merium attended Purdue University for two years and had a number of positions throughout her lifetime. During WW II and after she worked at Bryan manufacturing in Monticello, a factory in Kentland, Rea Magnet Wire in Lafayette, and in Clinton County at Kramer’s in Rossville, the County Highway Department, BMV, Gibson Cards, cashier, ordered and displayed greeting cards for CVS and closing out her working career at the St. Elizabeth Gift Shop.
Surviving Merium are her son, James W. (Donna) McQuern; twin granddaughters, Kara Demaree and Krista (Rob) Harris, and granddaughter
Jill (Jason) Gossard; great-grandchildren Dakota Boles, Travis Boles, and Elle Harris; and niece, Linda Decker, who spent a great deal of time with her, as well as three other nieces.
Merium was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son, Joe; and sister, Jean Zarse.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Amanda Reid Chapel – Wesley Manor with services immediately following at 2:00 pm with Deborah Musick officiating. Donations in memory of Merium may be made to Michigantown Christian Church or St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Envelopes will be available at Amanda Reid Chapel.
