Inside INdiana Business is reporting that Delphi-based Indiana Packers Corp. has cut the ribbon on a $24 million swine feed operation in Miami County. IPC subsidiary OP Nutrition will run the Peru mill, which is expected to produce some 4,800 tons of feed per week. The double-shift facility will employ 12.
OP Nutrition President Dave Murray calls the mill “a key piece in IPC’s growth strategy,” adding “it’s an exciting chapter for us and we’re thrilled to continue to expand and grow our business within our surrounding communities.” The company says most of the 250,000 tons produced annually are expected to make there way to farms within 70 miles of Peru.
Miami County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Jim Tidd calls it an exciting day for the community and the region. He adds “this project was a model of what public-private collaboration can look like in business, and we’re excited for how this facility will further localize our farm-to-manufacturer chain, by providing a major buyer for area-farmer’s grain and in turn providing high-quality feed for area hog farmers.”
Construction took about 18 months.
