Michigantown Amends Nuisance Ordinance In Clean-Up Effort

The Michigantown Town Board released information regarding alterations to the public nuisance ordinance that will permit citations for residences failing to follow the outlines set forth in the ordinance.

The board announced that in accordance with the Michigantown Ordinance 91-7, which details public nuisance requirements, the Michigantown Town Boards Code Enforcement Officer will begin serving notices to properties that are in violation of the code, which details numerous residential requirements to increase the beauty of the area and increase the safety of neighbors.

The ordinance addresses conditions including unkept yards, tall weeds and grass, scrap metal and junk, automobile parts, tires, brush piles, scrap lumber, masonry, unregistered vehicles and trailers, appliances, unlocked refrigerators and freezers, other debris and more.

The ordinance states that failure to resolve an ordinance violation notice within 10 days of the receipt of the citation will result in a $50 fine alongside any costs associated with the removal of the nuisance by the town.

Hard copies of the ordinance are available for the public at the Michigantown Post Office, The Farmers Bank location in Michigantown and Angels of Beauty.
