Michigantown Youth League Fall Ball Cancelled Amidst Field Resurfacing Project; Fundraising Continues For Project

The Michigantown Youth League has announced that fall ball will not occur this year for the league as extensive work is completed on the fields with the aid of community donations and funds granted by the Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties.

The league stated that the field resurfacing project will kick off this fall, causing the league to cancel its annual fall ball activities available to the community members of Michigantown. The league continued to announce that the Board of Directors is still seeking support from the community to continue the project.

“As much as we will miss our fall season, we need to take the time to have some extensive work done to our fields,” the board released. “We are still fundraising for this project. Please help us improve these fields for current and future MYL players.”

The Michigantown Youth League announced that the league will be launching a fundraising effort to revitalize and resurface the fields with every dollar raised up to $16,250 being matched by the Community Foundation, for a total of $32,500.

“The objective of the Michigantown Youth League Organization is to implant in the youth of Michigantown and surrounding community’s ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and reverence so they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children who will grow to be good, clean, healthy adults,” the board released. “We need your help for us to do this in the safest and most efficient way possible.”

The funding that would become available through the fundraiser and the matching grant would be utilized to dig up all three infields, correct any drainage issues and lay new material down to provide a level, smooth ballfield with field conditioner that is easily accessible and affordable. The project will also consist of leveling low spots in the outfield.

Excess funds not utilized for the project will be utilized to fix or ugrade the bases, pitching machines, scoreboards and field maintenance equipment.

“Every dollar counts, and we appreciate your consideration in partnering with us on this project,” the board released.
