Middle School Project Finalized

The Community Schools of Frankfort Board of Education gave its blessing on the new $25 million Frankfort Middle School renovation project Tuesday night following a state-mandated second public hearing about the project.

Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda said the next step for the project would be to have to have the board approve a $32.5  million lease. That lease would also gave the district the opportunity to see if they can take care of special projects, including the new vocational center, which Rhoda said was a need and a want.

“Besides the (Middle School) building, we know the Suncrest roof is a top priority,” said Rhoda. “That is somewhere between one and two million dollars. Then, we’re looking at getting a corporation-wide assessment to look at every capital project need that we’re going to have between now and 20 years down the road and we’re going to prioritize those.”

Architect Stacy Abernathy of Tecton said most of 2023 will be taken up by the design project with bids starting in 2024. Construction would begin in June 2024 with completion by July 2026.

Main items that need to be addressed are the cafeteria, classroom size, HVAC, roof, security problems due to where the entrance and main office are plus the band room.

Frankfort Middle School was built in 1987.
