Midwest Taekwondo Academy Instructor Receives Honors At National Level

The Midwest Taekwondo Academy announced that one instructor of the academy made waves throughout the 2024 AAU Taekwondo National Championships by achieving a specialized award.

Midwest Taekwondo Academy in Kirklin announced that three instructors and four students began the month of July by attending the national championships in Florida.

Seven members of the Midwest Taekwondo Academy residing in Kirklin attended the 2024 AAU Taekwondo National Championships, which kicked off Sunday, June 30 and continued through July 6 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The academy announced that Master Eric Waterman officiated and performed forms and weapons, Master Kristin Waterman performed forms and weapons and Andrea Rapp performed forms, weapons and Olympic sparring during the championships.

Following the competition, Master Kristin Waterman was named the 2024 AAU Taekwondo National Traditional Forms Athlete of the Year during the AAU Taekwondo Gala.

For the students, Matthew Brown performed forms and weapons alongside Liz and Kason with Benny who performed forms, weapons and point sparring.

Monday, July 1:

  • Freestyle Poomsae
  • Parasport Poomsae
  • Sport ITF TULS/Patterns
  • Board Breaking
  • Weapons Forms
  • Para Breaking

Tuesday, July 2:

  • All Traditional Forms (ITF, WTF, TSD and Open)
  • Black Belt Traditional Team Forms
  • Mixed Belt and Age Traditional Team Forms
  • Para Forms

The Olympic sparring events kicked off Wednesday, July 3 and continued through Saturday, July 6 with novice, intermediate, advanced and black belt classes battling against each other for titles at the national championships.

All events scheduled for the days took place from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the week.
