Mississippi Man Dies in Tipton County Crash

At approximately 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Indiana State Police, the Sharpsville Police Department, and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 near Tipton County Road 550 North, in which a Mississippi man died.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Josh Tarrh revealed that Michael Rigdon, 67, Forest, Mississippi was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, pulling a 2019 Reflection travel trailer, southbound on U.S. 31 near Tipton County Road 550 North. For an undetermined reason, the Dodge crossed the grassy median and traveled into the northbound lanes of U.S. 31. The Dodge then struck, head-on, a northbound 2007 International straight truck driven by Sir Deon Terrell, 32, South Bend, IN.

Rigdon was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Terrell was transported to a local hospital with a complaint of pain. He was treated and released.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
