The oldest Moose Lodge in the world is Frankfort’s
Moose Lodge #7 chartered on October 21, 1892. The
Frankfort Moose adopted Lawrence Farrell Park which is
also called Eastside Park. The Lodge was proud to host Seniors from Mooseheart School Wednesday.
About a dozen seniors from Mooseheart Child City &
School Inc. (Mooseheart,Illinois), about 38 miles west
of Chicago came to Frankfort To help clean up the
Eastside park today along with a big agenda for the
rest of the week traveling to some other Indiana towns for some more volunteering of their time to help several communities.
The kids spent their time in Frankfort at the park spreading mulch at the park and painted over the graffiti on the skate park. After a lunch provided by Slabby’s Food and Freedom the kids went to Goodwins Funeral Home Museum where Bill Miller graciously opened the museum for them to tour. This was a special treat for them.
Dinner was provided by and at the Moose Lodge. The kids will continue on their journey tomorrow heading south to Crawsfordsville and a couple other destinations before heading back home.
The kids seemed to very much enjoy working in the park this morning and some were a little confused about the Frankfort High School’s Mascot “Hotdogs”. After shown a photo of a Frankfort Hotdog it seemed to make a little more sense.
Mayor Judy Sheets was at the park to shake hands and thank all the seniors for the great job.
Bill Miller said that he and his staff had a wonderful time with the students and that they asked some great questions about history and automobiles, And that he was very honored to host them during their visit to Frankfort.
We at Clinton County Daily News also would like to thank the Students for a fine job at the park and also thank you to the Moose Lodge for inviting us to come along for some photos and a nice visit . Also thank you to the sponsors for bringing the students.
About Mooseheart:
Mooseheart is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for children and teens in need, from infancy through high school.
Dedicated in July 1913 by the Moose fraternal organization, Mooseheart cares for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them.
Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development. Whatever the reason, the men and women of the Moose, through unparalleled generosity and volunteerism, furnish the resources necessary to care for children in need. The Moose fraternity provides children with a wholesome home-like environment and the best possible training and education.
Frankfort Parks Department thanks the Moose Lodge #7 and the Mooseheart kids for their hard work making Eastside Park look beautiful again.
