Mulberry Native Killed By Active Shooter in Missouri

The Lafayette Journal and Courier is reporting that a Mulberry native was one of five people killed in an active shooter situation late Sunday night in Springfield, Mo.

Shannon Perkins, 46, who was also a Clinton Prairie High School graduate, was one of three shot inside the Kum & Go convenience store on East Chestnut Expressway near Highway 65. Perkins was an employee of the WCA Waste Corporation.

A 32-year-old police officer was shot and killed as he tried to rescue a victim. Another officer was shot, but suffered only non-life-threatening injuries. The shooter, identified as 31-year-old Joaquin Roman of Springfield, died from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to the police chief.

This incident was part of a shooting spree that spanned nearly five miles that ended with a car crash and a rampage at the convenience store.
