On Wednesday, deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Frankfort Police department with a burglary in the 1800 Block of State Road 28. It was reported the suspect had left the scene. While searching for the suspect, a homeowner in the 2000 Block of W Armstrong Road reported a man inside their pickup. When verbally confronted by the homeowner, the suspect fled on foot. Deputies responded to the scene and learned the suspect may be held up in nearby agricultural storage facilities.
During the investigation it was learned a firearm had been stolen from the homeowner’s vehicle and believed to be in possession of the suspect. Clinton County SWAT responded to search the numerous barns in the vicinity, but the suspect was not located. The Indiana State Police and Frankfort Police assisted on the scene as well, by providing officers to establish a perimeter.
Information about the suspect was distributed to law enforcement officers, as well as the public to assist in locating the suspect. In addition, information was gathered indicating the suspect had been in the parking lot of a nearby factory just a short time after fleeing from the Armstrong Rd residence.
At about 11:30 a.m., an observant citizen saw a male matching the description walking in the area of Hawthorne Avenue and Kyger Street and alerted law enforcement. Frankfort Police and Sheriff’s Deputies responded and apprehended the suspect after a short foot pursuit. The male also resisted the arrest by law enforcement officers.
The suspect, 26-year-old Shawn M. Montgomery of Frankfort, was taken to the Clinton County Jail where he was initially charged by Frankfort Police and Clinton County Sheriff’s Office detectives. Montgomery is charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, one being a firearm, and two counts of unlawful entry into a vehicle. The Clinton County Prosecutor will review the cases for formal charges.
