Nathan T. Champley, 49, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at IU Health Frankfort Hospital. He was born July 30, 1969, in Kankakee, Ill.; his mother and step-father, Linda and Steve Gillaspy survive in Shelbyville. On February 26, 1994, Nathan married Janet Bray in Kempton; she survives in Frankfort.
In 1989, Nathan graduated from Rossville High School, received his associate’s degree from Ivy Tech, and was just shy of his bachelor’s degree from IUPUI. He had worked throughout the area as a laborer in retail. Nathan’s passions were walking and taking photos of nature. He would draw comic strips online and also use his skills to make short films. Nathan will be remembered as a kind and generous man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need and give his last dollar as well.
In addition to his wife, mother, and step-father, Nathan is survived by his sisters, Johanna Michaels, of Shelbyville, and Shelley Bray and Amy (Brian) Snow, both of Frankfort; brothers, Don Bray, of Frankfort, and Doug (Tiffany) Bray, of Mechanicsburg; step-brothers, Marty Gillaspy, of Indianapolis, Cary Gillaspy, of Danville, and Michael Gillaspy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; step-sister, Jarissa Gillaspy, of Colfax; nephews, Corey, Cody, and Shad (fiancé, Jenny Clark) Bray; niece, Hailey Bray; and three great nieces.
Nathan is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Marjorie Champley.
A private gathering will be held to celebrate Nathan’s life at a later date. Memorials in Nathan’s name may be directed to the donor’s charity of choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, with memories to share directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
