In their continuing work building a strong police-community partnership, increased crime prevention awareness and enhanced neighborhood spirit and unity, Frankfort Police will host their annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7 from 6-8 p.m. in the TPA Park near the bird aviary.
According to Frankfort National Night Out Program Coordinator Detective Assistant Colleen Moore, this year’s event will include informational and fun activities for the entire family.
“We will have the always-popular dunk tank sponsored by The Farmers Bank and a bike safety booth with free bicycle registrations sponsored by local FOP Lodge #69, a gun safety booth, a SWAT booth, K-9 demonstrations by Frankfort Police and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement vehicles will be on display,” said Moore. “Shine 99 will be doing a live broadcast, the Rossville Lions Club with their ice cream trailer and Frankfort Police Department Chaplain Leo Gonzalez’s Primera Iglesia Bautista DE Frankfort church congregation will be providing food.”
All area law enforcement agencies have been invited to participate with the Indiana State Police, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Mulberry Town Marshal joining Frankfort police offers at the event.
“The United Way of Clinton County and its agencies will be at the event with their Back to School Agency Fair featuring free school supplies and information about various community programs and opportunities for residents,” said Moore.
According to Deputy Chief Scott Shoemaker, the mission of National Night Out complements the Police Department’s overall goal to strengthen communications and partnerships with community members.
“Our annual National Night Out events help promote strong police-community relations. We use opportunities like this to meet with and educate those in our community. Colleen Moore does a great job organizing this event and it really is a great time for children and adults alike,” said Shoemaker. “This year we will have face painting in addition to all the activities already mentioned. Each year attendance has increased as well as the many different activities available. We can’t wait to spend time with everyone at the park. Crime will always exist but events like this help encourage residents to report suspicious activity to our officers.”
Created in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make out neighborhoods safer, more caring places. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
