One Deceased in a Three Vehicle Crash

At approximately 9:46 a.m. Thursday on SR 47 about one quarter of a mile north of CR 500 south (that is approximately three miles west of Crawfordsville) three vehicles collide sending two drivers to hospitals with one deceased as a result of her injuries.

Trooper Nate Hampton of the Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Division was approximately one mile away when he heard the dispatch of the crash. Upon arrival, he did an assessment of injuries at which time he found driver one, Paula A. Martin, 66 of Rockville, IN with a severe wound on her arm. Trooper Hampton applied a tourniquet on the arm to help control the bleeding as other emergency personnel arrived on scene. She was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter where she later died from her injuries. Family has been notified.

Driver two, Albert D. McClain, 74 of Waveland, IN was injured and transported by ambulance to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis with serious injuries. Driver three, Anna R. Cornelius, 34 of New Market, IN complained of pain but refused treatment at the scene. All appeared to be wearing seat belts. Alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.

Trooper Hampton advised that Martin who was driving a silver 2011 Hyundai Elantra was northbound on SR 47 when for an unknown reason went left of center striking a gray 2017 Subaru Forester driven by McClain head on. The Hyundai continued north striking a white 2014 Scion TC driven by Cornelius who was behind the Forester. The Hyundai then came to rest on the north side of the road. The Forester rolled onto its side.
