One In Custody After A Short Pursuit In Tippecanoe County Thursday Evening

An 18-year-old Lafayette man was arrested following a short pursuit on Thursday evening with four juvenile passengers present within the vehicle.

Last night, March 27, just before 9 p.m., an Indiana State Police trooper was reportedly patrolling County Road 150 East near Wea School Road when he observed what was later determined to be a 2014 GMC Terrain performing “donuts” in the parking lot of Wea Park.

According to the trooper, when he turned around to investigate the situation, the vehicle drove through a ditch and onto County Road 150 East, heading northbound at a high rate of speed.

The trooper reportedly attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued to flee. While fleeing, the vehicle reportedly passed another car before continuing to flee northbound on County Road 150 East, through the roundabout at County Road 430 South and onto 18th Street. The driver then allegedly turned eastbound onto Whisper Valley Road and fled through a neighborhood before finally coming to a stop on Cooper Valley Drive.

The driver was later identified as Bryant Taylor, 18, of Lafayette who fled on foot while several other occupants reportedly remained inside the vehicle.

Shortly after, a deputy with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office reportedly located Taylor attempting to enter an occupied vehicle, and he was taken into custody and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Four juvenile passengers that remained in the vehicle were released to their parents, authorities report.

Taylor was arrested with preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, Level 6 Felony, resisting law enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, Class B Misdemeanor, possession of marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license, Class C Misdemeanor.
