At approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon I-65 NB lane restriction was reopened. Crews are still on scene working from the shoulder so use caution driving through the area.
Investigation by Trooper Jerrad Foutch revealed a blue 2017 Freightliner, owned by Werner Enerprise, was being driven by Johnny Ampah, age 47, of Elgin, IL. Ampah was traveling southbound on I-65 when he allegedly fell asleep and crossed through the cable-barrier median, both lanes of northbound traffic, and overturned on the embankment. Ampah sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The accident happened at approximately 6:02 a.m. Monday.
