Parks Department Prepping for Holiday Festival of Lights

Tis the season at the Frankfort Parks Department.  Preparations have begun to “hang tinsel” around TPA Park.  Parks Superintendent, Travis Sheets, said “employees of the Parks Department can be compared to Santa’s elves as we are in the Holiday spirit for months in advance to transform TPA Park in to a spectacle for all to enjoy”.  The Parks Department is raising money to purchase LED mini lights which will replace the incandescent light that have been used traditionally.  “Our goal is for our community to raise $12,250 to help make this purchase.  These strands of light will actually coordinate with the entire display and are relevant in providing harmony and dimension within the display as a whole,” Sheets said.

Traffic will flow in a more organized method this year.  The Parks Department has outlined a one-way traffic pattern with one entry and one exit.  According to Sheets, “traffic chaos during the Holiday Festival of Lights has been my number one complaint by Frankfort residents and especially out of town visitors.”  Traffic will enter as usual via Kyger Street and will meander through TPA Park and exit on Burlington Avenue next to the swimming pool.  Signs will direct traffic.

More events are planned during the festival too.  A heated big top tent has been scheduled to be erected between the concession stand and the band stand near the playground.  The tent will be the location for scheduled events.  “We are preparing a calendar for the use of the tent on a nightly basis.  Any group or organization that would like to use the tent for a public production, please contact the Parks Department at 765 659-3422.  We look forward to the activities that can be shared as family time,” Sheets said.
