Partnership For a Drug Free Clinton County Issues Release

In April of 2018 Kevin Evans, Center Township Trustee, arranged for community leaders to attend the National Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit in Atlanta.  Community leaders included representatives from the Trustee’s Office, County Health Department, the Frankfort Police Department, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Probation, Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office, and a community partner.  This team joined forces with the Drug and Alcohol Coalition, led by Nancy Ward,  to form the Partnership For a Drug Free Clinton County.  This group has worked hard and made great strides in the last 18 months.  The following are some of the highlights:

  • Healthy Highs for Teens banner and poster projects
  • COACH Kids made 149 matches last year with more to come this year and started a middle school mentor program
  • Resources guides made and given to community organizations, schools, and others, with over 750 passed out to date
  • Stay Sharp presentations at Clinton Prairie, youth groups, churches, and Find Your Brave events
  • Youth leadership councils up and running with representation from all county schools
  • Find Your Brave events done for girls and boys in partnership with local churches, which included Teen Challenge presentation, mental health presentation, and others
  • Drug Take Back Day events completed and more scheduled that are youth led
  • Campaign on medicine lock boxes
  • Creation of “Be Opioid Aware” campaign to raise community awareness around opioid safety in an effort to reduce overdoses, emergency room visits, and drug addiction. This campaign was produced by Qsoure in collaboration with Healthy Communities of Clinton County.
  • Creation of beopioidaware.org website that provides information and resources related to opioid use, storage, and disposal to lay individuals and prescribers.
  • Opening of We Care in July 2019.
  • Community-based Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program for Cyboxone started at Community Counseling Center Spring 2019
  • ONE80 Recovery Resources established as a 501c3 and working toward the goal of opening a 16-bed male residential recovery home in 2020.
  • Peer Recovery Coach telehealth program pilot in IU Frankfort Hospital.
  • Peer Recovery Coach certified for general communities in a collaboration between Healthy Communities of Clinton County, Clinton County Probation, and Clinton County Community Corrections.
  • Clinton County Health Department in partnership with Healthy Communities of Clinton County have conducted trainings and distributed hundreds of kits to first responders and lay responders.
  • Clinton County Health Department established a sharps disposal program for the community.
  • IU Frankfort Hospital added a medication disposal box in their Main Lobby (in addition to ones located at Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and CVS).

Q-Source in collaboration with IU Frankfort Hospital and supported by Healthy Communities of Clinton County implemented a pilot program in the Emergency Department that reduced opioid prescriptions by 96.1%!
