Paul J. Galbreath, 94, of Frankfort, passed away at Wesley Manor, Wednesday, December 12, 2018. He was born December 8, 1924, in South Haven, Michigan to Otto and Myra (Rodgers) Galbreath. Paul married Mary Jean Gossard on May 15, 1944, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Paul graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. He served in the US Navy Airship program, ferrying blimps across the Atlantic Ocean via the Azores to Africa, for which he received the Air Medal, and performing surveillance over the Mediterranean Sea during World War II. He then worked for United Airlines in air freight for many years. Paul enjoyed woodworking and was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elkhart, IN for over 50 years, then of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort. He was also a volunteer for Ko-op 65 Inc., a family services organization, assisting with food collection and pantry services for the community.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jeanny, and children, James (Beth) Galbreath of Woodridge, IL; Kerry (Scott) Kiphart of Frankfort, IN; Kristine (Robert) Stark of Elkhart, IN; Susan (Russ) Kyle of Elkhart, IN; John (Karen) Galbreath of White, GA; and Lori (Dave) Blackburn of Walkerton, IN; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also provided loving support to more than 30 foster children cared for in their home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, Kurt Galbreath.
Memorials in Paul’s name may be made to Heifer International or to the Indiana Audubon Society.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Wesley Manor Amanda Reid Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to the start of the celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.
