At approximately 11:28 p.m. Wednesday, emergency personnel were called to a serious crash in the westbound lanes of I-465 near Emerson Avenue on the southeast side of Indianapolis. 911 callers were reporting a pedestrian had possibly been struck. When first responders arrived they found vehicles pulled off onto the shoulder and an adult female victim lying in the roadway. The victim was unresponsive and later pronounce deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the victim’s vehicle had become disabled on the left side of the road, on the shoulder. It is believed she walked across all lanes of traffic to the other side of the interstate for unknown reasons, then walked back across the westbound lanes toward her car when when she was struck. After the initial collision, other vehicles struck the victim who was lying in the road. The initial vehicle that hit the pedestrian did not stop at the scene.
