Penny Saved Is Penny Earned When County Buys Fuel

Fuel prices are volatile. Erratic fuel prices make budgeting for 2023 difficult for everyone, including County Government.

Clinton County Commissioners have, for now, insulated Clinton County from volatile fuel prices and in the process locked in fuel prices at 35% increase year over year. This has resulted in approximately  $215,000 decrease in what was booked vs what Clinton County expected to pay for fuel in 2023.

Jordan Brewer, Clinton County Commissioner President, states: “One of our main jobs as commissioners is to be forward thinking in our decision making process in being fiscally responsible with tax payer dollars.  This move to contract the fuel four months sooner than is typically done represents a substantial saving for Clinton County.  It now allows the council to have $200,000 available in the 2023 budget for other services rather than being allocated towards fuel”

Clinton County Commissioners decided to take some uncertainty out of fuel pricing for now so the council will know what funds they have to work with to better facilitate planning for Clinton County in 2023.
