Philip Gerald “Phil” McQueen, Sr., 88, of Frankfort, passed away February 4, 2022, in Wesley Manor Health Center.
He was born January 11, 1934, in Crawfordsville to Orvin E. & Eva T. (Jackson) McQueen. On June 29, 1953, he married Rita A. Gray. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2013.
Phil attended Crawfordsville High School. He served three years in the U.S. Navy, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal “E”. He served 13 years as a city firefighter for Crawfordsville before moving to Frankfort where he was manager of Thrifty Supply. In 1984, Phil and Rita opened the family business, Phil’s Tool Rental.
Phil was a confessed Christian and a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and 40/8. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, and traveling, was an IU Hoosiers fan, and adopted rescue dogs.
Phil is survived by his son, Philip “Rusty” G. (Linda) McQueen, Jr. of Frankfort; two daughters, Suann “Susie” (Bob) Surber of Frankfort and Marissa Gayle (Rick) Rhoades of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Alisha, Josh, Kati Jo, Dusty, Kenzi Lyne, and Shane; and twelve great-grandchildren, Luke, Gracie, Roeman, Riley, Nellie, Rae, Raegan, Josie, Charlotte, Hattie, Breckston, and Adalynn.
In addition to his parents and wife, Phil was preceded in death by three sisters, Sue Coons, Kate Morrison, and Betty White.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phil’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Clinton County Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
