Phyllis (Buck) Kemstra

Phyllis Kamstra, 93, a lifelong Rossville resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Milner Community Healthcare on June 22, 2022.  She was born July 13, 1928, in Clinton County, to Robert R. and Reva I. (Griffin) Buck.

After attending Rossville High School, Phyllis married George Kamstra on July 7, 1946.  He preceded her in death on June 17, 2018.  Phyllis worked for 20 years as Food Service Manager for the Rossville School system.

Phyllis was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, where she also was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies’ Group.  She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Mother’s Club of Rossville, a volunteer at Milner Community Healthcare, a Cub Scout leader, and was an avid basketball fan.

Surviving Phyllis are her children, Linda Lou (Ron) McMains of Rossville, John Robert (Karla) Kamstra of Bloomington, and Garrett Allen (Betty) Kamstra of Northbend, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Joyce A. White; her twin brother, Phillip Buck of Pendleton; and her great-grandson, Blake Kamstra, who died February 25, 2019.

Phyllis was known by her family and friends as a woman who unconditionally loved deeply and served graciously.  To the end, she thought about the well-being of others and expressed her love for her family.  No final words about her will ever capture the lives she touched, the blessings she bestowed, and the love she shared.

The family has requested a limited visitation for the Rossville Community on Sunday, June 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home, 450 N State Road 39, Rossville, IN  46065.  A private family funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, with Pastor Rick Ryan officiating.  Phyllis will be laid to rest beside George at Rossville Cemetery.
