Phyllis I. Benefiel, 93, of Frankfort, IN, passed away January 6, 2026 at home in North Fort Myers, FL. She was born March 7, 1932 in Morgan County, Indiana to John Lehr & Luella Mabel (Ross) Tackett. Her marriage of 74 years was to George N. Benefiel on May 7, 1949 in Frankfort and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2023.
Phyllis grew up in Martinsville, attended high school there, moved to Frankfort in 1949 and had lived in Florida since 2004. She was secretary/bookkeeper for Benny’s Construction for 25 years, retiring in 1992. Phyllis was of the Methodist faith. She was a member Eastern Star Colfax Chapter and was past worthy matron and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Gerald “Garry” (Beverly) Benefiel of Daytona, FL, brother, Carroll (Martha) Tackett of Martinsville, 5 grandchildren: Chris, Courtney, Carey, Andrea, Michael (Keshia Hurless) Benefiel, and 3 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Ethan, Laura.
She was preceded in death by sons, Brian Benefiel, Charles “Chuck” Benefiel, daughter-in-law, Linda Benefiel, brothers, Francis, Wayne, and Ivan, sisters, Bernice, Cleota, Wanda, Gayle, Darlene, Doris and Glenda.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 Noon, Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon at the funeral home.
