Phyllis J. Bates, 95, of Frankfort, passed away February 27, 2025 at Wesley Manor. She was born August 29, 1929 in Clinton County to Leon M. & Elsie (Dellinger) Cohee. She married John C. Bates on November 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1986.
Phyllis was a 1947 graduate of Michigantown High School and then attended Real Estate school, where she received her Realtor License. She had worked at Hizer Agency, Peter Paul, and Clinton County Auditor’s Office. As a realtor, she co-owned The Black Agency with John Black and then was a realtor for Village Square. Her memberships include; Hopewell United Methodist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, where she was in the New Christian Class, member of Order of Eastern Star since 1947, formerly with Beard O.E.S. and then with OES Clinton Chapter 6, in Frankfort, United Methodist Women, Church Women United, Zonta, BPW, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Women of the Moose Lodge.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Shellie (Mark) Dexter of Lafayette, 6 grandchildren, Kimberley J. Bates of Frankfort, Richard Calvin Bates of Brookston, Aimee N. Dexter of Lafayette, Abby Lynn Dexter of Salem, Miranda Miller of Frankfort and Damon Dexter of Arizona, and 7 great grandchildren.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Harold Cohee, William Cohee, stepbrother, Norman Fudge, half-brother, Richard Cohee and son, Richard Bates.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon~2 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel at Wesley Manor, 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort. There will be an O.E.S. Service at 2 p.m. with the funeral service to follow. Deborah Musick Kleeme will officiate. Entombment will be in Clinton County Mausoleum at Green Lawn Cemetery.
