Mary Phyllis Mummert, 91, of Cutler, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at IU Health Arnett in Lafayette. She was born in Cutler on September 13, 1929 to Lloyd and Ersie (Bowen) Gangwer. She married James O. Mummert in February of 1950; he preceded her in death on August 1, 1991.
Phyllis graduated from Cutler High School in 1947. She worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone before also working at Sayco, Pioneer, and Meijer. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren and attended Bringhurst United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, and vegetable and flower gardening.
Phyllis is survived by her children; Thomas J. Mummert of Bringhurst, Jeffrey L. (wife, Cindy) Mummert of Anderson, Joretta (husband, Tom) Fuller of Arizona, Joyce (husband, Jeff) Clark of Delphi, and Jeri (companion, Gary Hollingsworth) Clark of Logansport; brother, Don (wife, Irma) Gangwer of Cutler; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; son, John Timothy Mummert; daughter-in-law, Pat Mummert; brother, Bob Gangwer; sister, Ann Ward, one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Bringhurst United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Brad Burton officiating. The service will be live-streamed and can be viewed at www.gendafuneralhome.com.
In adherence to the current CDC guidelines, it is requested that guests follow the appropriate social distancing and the wearing of masks.
Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis’ honor to Bringhurst United Methodist Church, Ball Hill Cemetery, or Carroll County School Scholarship.
