A $16,500 Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) 2019 Edward Byrne JAG grant will help reduce vehicle speed, inform the public of important messages, and increase officer and citizen safety.
According to Chief Troy Bacon, the grant funding will be used to purchase a large electronic signboard and trailer that can be easily transported to areas of the city to help reduce vehicle speed and provide mass notification to the community in emergency situations.
“The sign boards will allow the department to reduce vehicle speed in specific strategic locations in the city and will allow us to deliver important information to the community such as AMBER Alert messages, missing person notices, or public emergency information.” Bacon said, “We will also be able to use the sign in conjunction with our ICJI Operation Pull-Over and Traffic Partnership Grants to notify the public of DUI checkpoints and ongoing traffic enforcement projects.”
Awarded through the ICJI, the grant is funded by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Program.
