Police Pursuit Ends With Two Arrested

On Saturday at approximately 05:51 p.m., Trooper Sean Schaefer was patrolling on I-65 near the 174 mm. He observed a silver 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe being driven northbound in excess of 100 mph. He activated his emergency lights and started to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle initially pulled to the right shoulder and stopped. As Trooper Schaefer was approaching the vehicle, it sped off at a high rate of speed. Trooper Schaefer was able to return to his vehicle and initiate a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle continued northbound on I-65 for approximately 20 miles at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The vehicle attempted to exit I-65 at the 193 mm when it crashed on the exit ramp.

The vehicle was occupied by four subjects, two of which exited the vehicle after crashing and fled on foot. The driver and front seat passenger who had fled were both apprehended nearby. The two back seat passengers were juveniles. No one involved sustained injuries. Assisting at the scene was Brookston Police Department, White County Sheriff’s Office, Farney’s Wrecker Service, White County EMS, Trooper Peter Stephan, and Trooper Michael Risley.

Providing a False Identity Statement, Class A Misdemeanor

Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor

Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor
