Power Earns $2.5 Million For Indianapolis 500 Win

Inside INdiana Business is reporting that Will Power earned $2.52 million from a purse of more than $13 million for his win in Sunday’s 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500. Power, the first Australian winner of the Indy 500, beat second-place finisher Ed Carpenter by more than three seconds to take the checkered flag.

Power’s win marks the 17th Indianapolis 500 victory for Team Penske. Power led the race four times for a total of 59 laps. He took the lead for good on lap 196 of the 200-lap race.

Carpenter earned more than $911,000 for his second-place run. The result marked the Indianapolis native’s best Indy 500 finish. He led a race-high 65 laps.

Scott Dixon earned over $587,000 for finishing third, Alexander Rossi earned nearly $455,000 for his fourth-place finish and Ryan Hunter-Reay earned nearly $420,000 to round out the top five.
