Pratt Captures Center Township Trustee Position at Caucus

Clinton County Republican Party Chairman Jim Moyer talks with Center Township Trustee elect Jami Pratt after she was named to the position Saturday,

Jami Pratt was officially named the Center Township Trustee Saturday in a four-person race for the position in a Clinton County Republican Party Caucus held at Old Stoney.

Pratt garnered 10 of the 18 possible votes on the first ballot to defeat Cory Boyles, Tom Bush and Steve Teegarden. She takes over on Monday.

“I’m very excited,” said Pratt. “I was nervous because of all the competition I had.”

Both Pratt and Jada Ray were named to fill vacancies on the board at the beginning of 2019. Pratt said the year on the board was very beneficial.

“I was on the board for a year,” said Pratt. “I think having the relationship that we do within the board and when I worked with (former Center Township Trustee) Kevin (Evans). We have a strong tie and work well together.”

Evans resigned earlier this year to take a position with Abilities Services, Inc.

Republican Party Chairman Jim Moyer said he is very confident in Pratt’s abilities.

“She has been actually doing the work of the Trustee for quite some time now,” said Moyer. “I think Jami is well qualified and I think she will do a very good job as Trustee.”

Pratt was asked if she was going to make any changes.

“For now, I think we have a couple of projects we’re going to finish that Kevin started,” said Pratt. “I want to continue with the ‘Aspire at the Y’ that Kevin started as well as the Teen Club at the Boys and Girls Club. I have a couple of things in my back packet I’m hoping to get pushed through, But, we’ll see how it goes.”

Moyer has at least one more caucus to take care of. That will be at 5 p.m. Thursday to find a new City Clerk-Treasurer due to former Clerk Treasurer Judy Sheets being named as Mayor replacing Chris McBarnes last month. Currently, there are three individuals running for that position. They are Clinton County Treasurer Carol Bartley, Utility Service Board Auditor and Secretary Andrew Day and Catherine Hale.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Monday to file their intent for the position.
