Presumptive Identification Made on Kokomo Fire Victims

Presumptive identification has been determined through the investigation by the Howard County Coroner’s Office of the two children that died in the house fire at 908 N. Morrison St. in Kokomo Christmas Eve Morning. The deceased sisters are Alexis Ann Jones, age 12 and Mercedes Faith Jones, age 10 of 908 N. Morrison Street.

On December 26, an autopsy was conducted at Community Howard Regional Hospital at the Coroner’s request.  The cause and manner of death is pending further investigation and lab studies.

On December 24, 2017, at approximately 3:38 a.m., officers of the Kokomo Police Department and the Kokomo Fire Department responded to the 900 block of North Morrison Street on a report of a residence fully engulfed in flames.  Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a two-story; single family dwelling, engulfed in flames and subjects possibly trapped inside the dwelling.

Two adults and three juveniles managed to escape from the dwelling; they received medical treatment at a local hospital.  One firefighter was injured at the scene; he was treated and released.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.  The case is currently under investigation by the Kokomo Police Department, the Kokomo Fire Department, and the Howard County Coroner’s Office.
