Private Development on Purdue Campus to Start Soon

Inside INdiana Business is reporting Purdue University says construction on the first piece of the $1 billion Discovery Park District will begin this month. The $86 million, 835-bed Aspire at Discovery Park is a privately-developed apartment complex on the west side of the campus. Construction is slated to be complete by the fall of 2019.

Plans for the 387,000-square-foot complex call for three building with four stories each containing one, two and four-bedroom apartments. Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of a United Kingdom-based company, will work with developer and contractor Walsh Group of Chicago on the project. Balfour Beatty has a long-term lease with the Purdue Research Foundation on the property.

The investment total has increased and some aspects of the Aspire development have been changed since Purdue first announced details in December 2016. In June of that same year, the school unveiled plans for what was then called the Purdue Innovation District. Indianapolis-based Browning Investments LLC, who is partnering with Purdue on the effort, has said the 450-acre district could eventually involve seven million square-feet of development and take 15-20 years to be fully realized.
