Frankfort Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe said he wants the public to know he is trying to help fix a problem near the railroad tracks on Washington Avenue that has numerous potholes in them next to Galvin’s Auto Sales.
“This is not the city’s responsibility,” said Forsythe. “I can’t do anything with it.”
Forsythe said he had street department personnel put cold patch on the tracks last week despite knowing that the railroad doesn’t want anybody to mess with those tracks. However, he said the patch is already gone due to the traffic and water that is on the surface. He said he has contacted an engineer from Norfolk and Southern Railroad, who owns the tracks and that person told Forsythe they would send a dump truck full load of cold patch down later this week to try and help the situation.
Forsythe said there has been at least two flat tires caused by the condition of the tracks. He issued the following warning.
“Slow down when you come to those tracks,” said Forsythe. “Be careful and stay safe in the area.”
Forsythe added Norfolk and Southern will hopefully have someone come in this summer to remedy the problem completely.
